ABC of Interview
INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
What is an interview?
What should I wear?
What to study?
How should I prepare for the interview?
How to face the interview?
These are few questions which popped out into our cortex and we start to pluck the flower petals I will crack it? I will not crack it?
Actually this is as usual as anything else because interview means to show our interpersonal skills, knowledge, persona in front of the interviewer to grab this job. When we are given the schedule of interview all the calculations take place into our mind and we start to estimate the result. We start to enjoy in one second and then worried in another second.
Therefore, I will share with you what I have learnt till date since my first interview. It was a zero to hundred journey. I remember in my first interview I was asked question and while I was answering the interviewer was busy with his mobile, putting it in lap and doing something. It was irascible for me but I have read an article in a magazine that these kind of tricks of interviewers are also a scale of evaluating the candidate.
However neither did I get a job there nor I was told anything why I was rejected. Actually this is the irony I think the HR must tell the candidate that why was he/she got rejected. It will help the candidate to identify the gray areas where he/she needs to work upon and can sharpen the saw.
In another experience the interviewer actually helped me to at least identify my strong areas but again I was not selected as it was an IT industry and due to some reference I got this opportunity without knowing the programming and coding. I cracked their aptitude test, technical test but during interview I was asked to write a program and honestly I accepted that I had no knowledge of programming.
After that Interview I have gone through some more interviews and finally I got selected. But actually I found myself more confident after each interview as I was identifying the improvement areas and was working on them regularly. I was reading different articles, job magazines, consulting my seniors and gradually I became aware about the Do's and Dont's during interview.
It was a rich experience and I never took any interview rejection personally but looked at them as an opportunity to get rid of all the No Go traits. Whatever I have learnt I am sharing in this article in points so that you can understand them easily.
- When you are going for an interview make yourself calm and focus on all the things which are required for the job. Revise them and ensure that you are ready to be asked anything about these areas.
- The areas in which you feel you need to work before the interview just try to learn them for a long term use not keeping the interview in mind.Because if you do not have much time for an interview and you did not work on it previously then under pressure you will loose the confidence. Thus be patient and start to work on it confidently.
- Search about the company's Profile it's history, market ,product diversity, services and all and make a short note to summarize it. This shows the candidate's pro-activeness. Try to put it into conversation during interview using your skills as it shows that you are well prepared for interview.
- Keep documents in sequence ,your degrees, experiences, training etc.
- Resume must not be exaggerated it should be read before interview so that you can answer the questions raised from you Curriculum Vitae or Resume.
- Resume must be honestly written and must be written in a format that all the details are clear and in a neat manner. Increasing pages may spoil your profile.
- Greet the interviewer and you can shake hand also but keeping eye contact with the interviewer.
- Keeping eye contact does not mean to stare you can frequently look here and there but not towards ceiling or floor.
- Sit comfortably,do not strain your spine. Sit in a posture in which you feel good and comfortable.
- If you are not aware about anything about asked question ,then honestly deny rather than giving baseless answers.
- Keep your sentences simple so that there is no fear, hesitation to answer as sometimes even knowing everything but problem in expressing it may turn your winning to loosing.
- Do not use irritating body language like using your hands unnecessarily, scratching your forehead, nose repeatedly.
- Voice must be audible so that the interviewer can understand each and every word you say.
These are few tips which I hope will help you during your interview.
Conclusion:-
Be confident, prepared, and proactive during interview. Never exaggerate your resume and go through the resume before appearing in interview.Answer your questions confidently and in audible voice.Keep eye contact but do not stare.Sit in comfortable position. Do not take rejections personally take them as an opportunity, work on them and change your weakness into strength.
